To untangle the economic reasons behind rising food costs — from flour and rice to milk and beef — you have to think globally: world food supplies are decreasing and, at the same time, demand is increasing. World population grows by about 75 million people each year, so there are more mouths to feed, said Richard Kilmer, professor in the department of Food and Resource Economics at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Arrest made in murder of North Fort Myers man
Samuel Joseph Loudenslager, 35, has been arrested in connection with the death of Jerry Collins, 45, of North Fort Myers, the Lee County Sheriff's Office reports. Loudenslager faces charges of second-degree murder.
