The City of Marco Island

Roadway and bridge repairs:     resurface streets; refresh striping
on streets; remove debris from right-of-way; rehabilitate, rebuild, and repair pavement and repair sidewalks; coordinate  bridge inspections and repairs with other agencies.

Traffic control and roadway safety: install and replace regulatory and informational roadway signs; install new street name signs; repair traffic signals – all phases; repair streetlights; monitor       Adopt-A-Road program; replace waterway markers.

Drainage and stormwater system: replace failed storm sewer pipes and drainage inlets; install new and additional storm sewer outfalls; de-silt pipe networks; re-grade drainage swales; skim drainage boxes; maintain culverts.

Permitting activities: assist all other agencies with permitting – right-of-way, for utilities; inspect both residential and commercial permits for new and upgraded construction projects – seawalls, pathways; sight development plan reviews.

Although many services are achieved more efficiently in a cost-effective manner through out-sourced annual contracts, the 11-person staff responds to citizen inquiries quickly and professionally.

MARCO ISLAND UTILITIES
 Utility staff is responsible for providing water, wastewater, and reuse services to residents of Marco Island, Marco Shores, and the Isles of Capri (wastewater). Water is sold in bulk to Collier County for Goodland, and bulk wastewater treatment is provided to the North Marco Utilities. In addition, Staff handles planning, budgeting, engineering, and regulatory issues for the resident.

Utility Department responsibilities include:
•    Providing service to 15,000 to 40,000 residents through 11,000 customer meters
•    Maintaining 500 miles of water transmission lines
•    Maintaining 200 miles of sewer collection lines
•    Maintaining 64 wastewater lift stations
•    Maintaining 25 miles of reuse water distribution lines
•    Producing and distributing 3.1 billion gallons of potable water
•    Collecting and treating 730 million gallons of wastewater
•    Producing and distributing 401 million gallons of reuse water for irrigation
